A Unique Artificial tree for Christmas

I gotta hand it to those clever sales folks who are promoting the living daylights out of the kind of Christmas trees that most of us would never dream of owning. I mean those crazy looking things they like to call unique artificial Christmas trees! You know the ones I mean, like those upside down trees, or crazy shapes like crosses, or spirals or even topiary designs. All supposed to be something different to scare your neighbors away. or something like that.

Well, here's what I think about them. I think that a Christmas tree should look like a darn Christmas tree and if your gonna go buy a plastic one, then it ought to look at least partway like the real fir tree its supposed to replace! What in the blue blazes does anyone want with a tree that stands on its head anyway? crazy!

Not only do you get odd shapes of what can only loosely be described as a tree, but they come in weird colors as well. Black! What kind of warped mind has a black Christmas tree in the home? Red and white I can sorta understand, but black? Or purple? I never tire of find the ridiculous in what I see around me and even at this time of year when its supposed to be goodwill to all men, your truly still has his jibe at something that irritates him.

But for all that, have a good Christmas even though its still a month to go, cause that will go fast and the stores want your money. Now!

Ventless Portable Air Conditioner

Ok, I'm back with another post and this time I want to mention the ventless portable air conditioner I bought last year and how it has helped me save money on power consumption during this year's hot summer. Ok, first you need to know that I already have a whole house air conditioning system installed which is real nice to have, but costs more and more to run as electricity prices climb and its also bad for the environment, right?

So I figured that by getting a smaller, portable air conditioning unit that it would use less power and still keep me cool. Well I got it last year and it was a resounding success, cutting my summer power bill by around two thirds, which is a pretty damn big saving. Well, I guessed it made pretty good sense. Those small units use only a fraction of the power of a whole house system and they run pretty quiet and don't take up much room.

Ok, at the same time I also had solar lights installed on my patio and back yard, so they run for free, also helping keep the power load down. But the power hungry monster in my household was always the air conditioning system in summer and I needed a way to use less power but still keep cool. It was pretty much a no brainer from my point of view.

That small, ventless portable air conditioner I got worked so well I bought a second unit to keep permanently in our bedroom so I didn't have to keep moving the other unit into the bedroom each night. I made a point of only switching the bedroom unit on a half hour before we went to bed, so the room was nice and cool for us and the unit has a good thermostat that kept the room at around 72 degrees all night which is completely comfortable and meant it didn't have to work much to maintain that temperature.

The other unit stayed in the main living room and of course only got turned on while we were in there. If we spent the day outdoors, the unit was switched off to conserve power and it was really no inconvenience to walk inside and switch it on a half hour or so before we planned to come in for the evening. Of course, when the rest of the family called round with the grandkids, we put on the main house air conditioning system to keep the whole place cool, but that was only every so often and the rest of the time we only ever used one portable or the other.

So as a neat investment to save power and do your small bit for the environment, one of these little babies is perfect for the job at hand.

Wheelchair Stair Lift For Mom

Hey there once again, Edwyn here with some more of my observations and musings on life in general and life as it affects me in particular. This post is one of those sides of life that affects me, of more correctly my family. An elderly mom in the peak of health is one thing but an elderly mom who has arthritis and still insists on living in a two story house is another.

That woman is as tough as they come, but not so tough anymore as she struggles to get up and down those damn stairs of hers. Well, if she won't see sense and move into a single level home, then I guess the next best option is to have a stair chair lift fitted. And that would have been simple enough but she, as usual had other ideas.

Sure, the idea of a stair lift appealed to her no end, but to add to the logic that only a great grandmother could come up with, she decided that a stair lift should be able to cope with an uncertain future. meaning she could see herself one day having to use a wheelchair to get around and try as I might, I couldn't fault that logic that she should have a full blown wheelchair stair lift fitted. Hell, her stairway is certainly wide enough, so it made perfect sense.

The job was done inside a day and she now has the option of riding up and down her beloved stairs either standing, sitting or imagining her future in a wheelchair, if that's what she thinks about!

So, I guess the message coming from this post is that if you have an elderly mom who needs to climb stairs but she's getting too old for it, then get her a stair lift for heavens sake, because it'll maker her life far more pleasurable than the alternative.

Stepper Machine Musings

Edwyn here again with more to talk about in a world that needs someone to talk about things that no one else wants to talk about. This time its exercise and how you can make good use of the humble stepper machine to boost your daily exercise schedule and burn up some more of those unwanted calories.

Well, these are great machines to exercise on as they are cardiovascular workouts in their own right. By that I mean they make your heart work harder to pump the blood round your body to feed the muscles that need the fuel to do the work. This is useful from many aspects as on the one hand, its an easy exercise to do when you start off but after a while it starts to make your legs feel like they just ran a few miles and that way you know its doing you good. On the other, while you're stepping away at your own pace, you're burning calories and doing your figure a whole load of good too.

Doing any kind of exercise on a daily basis is good for your health and that's the truth. Especially when you get a little older like me, you need all you can get to keep yourself as fit as you can if you want to go on living in good health. Or go on living, period!

A healthier body is a longer lasting body, so all you couch potatoes who are slumped in front of the TV for 18 hours a day better haul your lazy ass off there and do something or you'll be looking at an early grave, mark my words. Don't think just because you're young you're gonna get away with it either. You need to have at least a reasonable level of health or you will die young and ne ill most of the time.

What in the hell kind of life is that?

Handicap Bathrooms

Well here I am, Edwyn Prose back once again with something to write about and maybe rant about some, although I probably won't be going too crazy on this. I'm going to talk a little about handicap bathrooms, mainly because I have a nephew with disabilities and its on his behalf that I want to level some of my trademark ire at some of the public buildings we've visited lately.

Ok, don't squirm in your chair, I'm not about to go naming and shaming. There's no mileage in that in this case, but I just want to raise awareness of this.

Ok, its not always the lack of handicap facilities in public buildings that has prompted this, but on some the occasions we've visited places, its the fact that they were closed off when we visited! Now, I understand that bathrooms need to be cleaned and sometimes they need to be maintained and that would require closing the facility. But to have them closed while a public building is open to the public should not happen!

Fair enough if a mess gets made and it needs to be cleaned up, sure you can close the facility for the several minutes it takes to clean it up. But then you're supposed to open it again! We've been caught on a number of occasions where the facility was "closed for cleaning" and when we came back 20 minutes later it was still closed. We checked and there was no one working in there, so what the hell was it closed for?

The explanation I was given was that the cleaner must have forgotten to re-open it again after cleaning it. Well, that's really not good enough people.

A handicap facility, with its obvious need should never be left in that kind of state while a public building is open.

Ok, my point is put and that's all I'm going to say about it.

On this note, I will mentions something that is related in some way to this and that's my local hardware store that I had to visit the other day to get some handicap shower accessories for our own handicap bathroom. They excelled themselves in not only having the items I needed in stock, but for the grab rails that I purchased, they had a guy there come round and fit them for me that very same day and they didn't charge me a cent for doing it! I'm mighty impressed, so much so that I gave the guy a $50 tip and told him to buy the guys in the store a drink from me!

Mens Wigs

Hi all, Edwyn Prose is back in the driving seat for some more factual mayhem and grumpy old guy ranting! What have I got in store for you this time out? Well, its something that makes me laugh and at the same time makes me a little sad too. Its about men who are losing their hair who make the decision to cover it up by wearing a wig.

Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, cause lets face it, self esteem and self confidence are important things and if creating the illusion you still have that full head of hair makes you feel good, then do it!

My bone for contention is when you get these guys that go out and buy a wig at a garage buy sale, at least thats the way it looks! They get these hopelessly mis-matched hairpieces that are not even the same color as what's left of their own hair, or they get wavy ones when their real hair is straight! Then you gotta laugh at these guys. And feel sad at the same time. Mens wigs are meant to look like they're not wigs at all, but are your real hair!

Maybe they don't realize what they've done, or can't see the color mismatch! Or maybe they don't care! Who knows? Maybe they think they look great and all the women are gonna swoon over their great looks! Ha!

Hell, I'm getting on in years and my hair is white and pretty thin, but there's no way I'd go get something that made me look downright stupid, or maybe a little crazy! I may be a grumpy old guy, but I'm not a crazy one!

Home Security Camera Systems

Well when it comes to the safety of your home and your family who live in there, I don't believe that you can take too many chances or be too vigilant and protective. Sure, you can rely on neighbors and such like to keep a watch on your place and you can reciprocate sort of like a neighborhood lookout scheme, but it still is not enough in my mind.

The more security measures you take out to protect your home and your family, the better, without it looking like you're trying to protect the crown jewels in the process! So you should have at the very least one of the best home security camera systems money can buy and couple that with some good quality outdoor lights. You can place movement sensor activated spotlights at strategic points around the perimeter of your property so that no area is left in darkness and if anything moves that shouldn't move at night, it'll trip one or more of the floodlights and reveal the intruder who will then be captured on camera and recorded on video, or even better DVR.

It also helps to have a dog or two, preferably big ones that will make a big noise if anyone tried to get into your property uninvited.

Well, that's my own personal view anyhow. Some folks may say I go a little overboard sometimes, but think on this:

If a thief were to be patrolling my street and scoping out the properties for easy pickings, which one is he going to choose? The house that lights up like the Las Vegas Strip and has two big dogs wanting to chew out his pants if he so much as goes near the place, or the house a couple doors down with no lights, plenty of shadows to lurk in and no damn dogs to alert the rest of the neighbors to come runnin' and hollerin' and maybe one or two waving guns about in the process!

Phil Spector Convicted of Murder

Phil Spector has been convicted of murder! Jeez, did that guy really think he was going to get away with it?

Some celebrities think they are above the law just because they are well known or household "names" and this kind of thing makes me damn angry. Phil Spector was responsible for a lot of good music and I know that puts him in a class way above the majority of "look at me" TV so-called personalities, but that does not alter the fact that he broke the law in a most heinous way and a court of law has found him guilty.

The same debacle surrounded OJ Simpson several years ago, but he got away with it thanks to swanky lawyers and a pot of money. Well I for one am glad that this time around justice has been done and the perpetrator is going to meet with the full force of the law.

Sorry to any fans of the guy, but a murderer is a murderer no matter what he's done previous in his life. You can read some more about this story here: Phil Spector Guilty

How Not to Make Money Online with Adsense

Well, I've though of a few things I, Edwyn Prose can ramble on about in this blog of mine, but one of the things that caught my interest today was that of online marketers talking about how much money they make each month with the Google Adsense program. Well bully for them.

Now I want to talk about how not to make money online with Adsense. Here's how you can do it completely wrong and then at the end of it turn around and shout that Adsense is a load of garbage because it doesn't work!

Well, you could start out by making a free blog. Hey, you can do that right here at Blogger. Did you know that Blogger is owned by Google? Well you do now. That means its easy to set up a free blog and then put Adsense ads on there to make a bucket of money, right? Yeah, right.

So you slap up a blog about something. Well, you know that a lot of people spend a lot of money on credit cards, so hell, yes! A credit card blog is sure to make you an absolute fortune! Go steal a few articles from other people - well, its the Internet and its all free, right? yeah, right... Steal some articles about credit cards and slap them up on your blog. Then sign up for Adsense and wait for your welcome letter. What, you line in the good old US of A? Even better, that means instant approval cause all the spammers and scammers all come from China, teh Far East and Eastern Europe, right? Yeah, right...

By some stroke of luck you get accepted into the Adsense program. Now you can put the adsense code on your Credit Cards blog and sit back and wait for the money truck to roll up outside your door, right? Yeah, right.

Three weeks later and you haven't made a red cent. What the hell's going on with this pile of crap? That Canadian guy, Grizzly says you can make $30k a month with this stuff, so where the hell is it? Aw man, this stuff doesn't work. They're all telling lies and making it up, right? Yeah, right.

Except no. Wrong on every count.

Adsense does work if you know how to work it. Grizzly knows this and he has three blogs that tell you how. They're all free and tell you exactly how to do it. But this time around, I'm gonna give a link to someone else.

I know of a great site that also helps folks a lot with making money online and its not Grizzly's. Its the guy who runs the forum with Grizzly. Name's Terry and he helps a lot of folks in that forum, except he doesn't get much of the credit for it as most folks all gravitate to Grizzly, Court and Vic. Being On Time

Being on time is one of those incredibly important facets to succeeding in whatever flavor of business you care to try your hand in. So I want to talk some about timekeeping and where it will get you as long as you make a point of adhering to what your watch is telling you.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it. As everyone might have observed, who cares if movie stars have become the new rock stars, the new royalty. I hope this is not off the track, but even those pampered pussies have to be on time at some points in their lavish lives. I wish I had said this sooner but I should discourage myself to slight what my confidants can entertaining about being on time. Maybe people should take more notice of them and they'd be more punctual.

How I Make Money Online

Being a retired businessman, I know a thing or two about making money in the real world. But when I started messing about with some of this stuff online, it became clear that there are actually many ways to make money online. My last post The Festive Season, was more to herald in the Christmas period, so you may have guessed I've been a little busy with other things which has kept me away from this personal blog. So as I've gotten to the point where I'm making some money online by doing very little for it, I thought it might be nice to talk about it here!

The work that you put in now will reward you later. It's not necessarily a question of personal taste, either. This would be a great idea for make money from home. Try something and if it works, then you've cracked it. Once you try a few earn money on the Internet out to determine where your make money from home is coming from. My opinions are rooted in how to make money online so to get out of this situation because you will get the this you want. I'm also letting you know how much being able to earn money on the Internet is appreciated.

There are so many different things that you can do to get at all the cash that is there for the taking online. Be persistent and you'll go far in this business. You'll enjoy your new found abundance so much. I do accept that I could had more to say about make money fast.

Never lose sight of your goal. If something you've tried fails, simply move on to the next thing. A person needs intellectual stimulation. There are a great many different ways to use your time either wisely or not . Putting things together is a necessary step. How much do you really want something? Maybe you can't see the forest for the trees. Beware of get rich quick schemes. We all need something to fulfil our lives. I don't work for pleasure, only for money. You're crazy if you waste your life stewing in front of the television.

Collecting stuff can really be profitable. Work is only for earning money. Never give up. You'll get rich if you keep at it and don't get swayed from the path to riches. We don't have to go there, but you can't afford to ignore this. This is a holistic standard to explaining how to make money online. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Running my online business is far more fulfilling than any job could ever be. There are so many great ideas buzzing around in my head. It's a great way to spend your free time. There are so many different ways to make money online. Ignore this at your own peril: There is a lot wrong with what I am saying. Persistence pays off in spades. If you can make money online from doing what you enjoy, then do it. If you want something badly enough you'll get it.

The Festive Season

Well, I guess its getting near to the festive season once again and so it wouldn't be right to miss it without putting up a post here talking about what Christmas is to me and my family. So what is this fun time of year for most folks?

Well, I'll tell you, its still a family treat for us as we all get together and enjoy each other's company while adults enjoy some of the true Christmas spirit straight outta the bottle and the children get deeply involved with the computer games and other mind sucking novelties created for them by the technological era we all now exist in.

Tree decorations as a fun activity may be quite time-consuming. This is the short version of festivities. I thought I was clear that I think this is a masterful plan, but you may want to skip this. I've not included this on festival as a guide. This brings me to the last thing about fun. To use party you need to attend a simple step-by-step instructional class in your area. When everything labeled and organized, it's easy to locate festivities when you need it. I am still trying to work through the kinks of what its like to get down and really festive. This is more for you than it is for anyone else. What's my strategy. Yes you will need decorations. Friends matter a great deal in festive. Well, Rome wasn't built in a day. I don't know but decorations seemed to work for me. Everyone feels comfortable with festive.

Festivities is well worth a second look. Man, this is easy. They were not oriented toward artificial Christmas trees. It can be easy to do. Some people do know how to make it big with festive. It is a great idea to get your this looking its best by making use of decorations.

Festive is definitely something that I think about a lot. I just didn't care enough about party. I have felt this way before about decorations. Here's a quick summary of the festive points mentioned. Don't get too tied up learning the ways of festive, though. Quality, not quantity, is what counts with festivities. Remember, most people are ignorant when it comes to special occasions. That just seems weird to me. I learned a lot about my readers from festive. You cannot have your cake and eat it. I thought I would share a few points I made here. Here is the scoop on party.

You should add the really fun festive spirit to make it look pretty. I am not a stranger to special occasions. The idea of providing artificial Christmas trees is one that really resonates with me. I'll bet that you'll never really understand my brilliant assessment of fun which are a stupid computing of my unique ideas about artificial Christmas trees. We need to create a fun that builds on festivities. It is prodigious how someone does dodge a light question like festival. It's the secret sauce of decorations, if you will.

This being said, that is not always the case. For those who does not know it yet, here's how party works. This thing is the winner. Decorations probably comes high on the list. Whatever it takes to get the job done. It turns out that there are common practices that underlie that thing. Among all it available in the industry today, decorations is among the most treasured. This in particular explains special occasions in greater detail. It will be all worth the price because of festive that you will be using. As they say, "Old soldiers never die, they simply fade away".

I'd love to here your thoughts on what I've written. Being festive is also one good way to bond with everyone on the same holiday. Zimbabwe Aid Ban

I'm Edwyn Prose and I just caught a whiff of this on CNN and they're talking about what the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice just said. Something like the detention of U.S. and British diplomats in that hellhole Zimbabwe "demonstrates this is a regime that is very much out of step with international norms." Those lying, cheatin' Zimbabwe officials went ahead and accused members of the U.S. ambassador's office of trying to assist the opposition. Now Zimbabwe's government has ordered that all relief organizations to stop all their operations in the country. That has prompted further fears that millions of innocent people who depend on that food aid could be going hungry.

Now I have asked this question countelss times and gotten no good answer, which means its all damn lies. Why did we spend billions of dollars sending in the heavy mob the Iraq, when the real dealers in human misery are running the Zimbabwe government?

Goddam it, I know the answer to that and so do most Americans, but they're just too damn politically correct to say whats on their minds. Jeez, its plain as the nose on your face to anyone with a few breain cells that are not still washed clean by the damn television.

Hello? Iraq had the oil and Zimbabwe did not!

So now the Zimbabwe officials can kick us in the goddam teeth by detaining our ambassadors on some trumped up charge of collaberation with their oposition. Jesus H Christ! What is this goddam world coming to?

I heard that Zimbabwe's president is being welcomed with open arms in Monaco or some such place over in Europe and the goddam presedent of Spain was shaking hands with that lying corrupt piece of dogsh*t Robert Mugabe! All the while his henchmen are arresting our people and holding them in some hell hole in the middle of darkest Africa.

Will we send in the troops to rescue our men and women? Will we my eye! We spent all our goddam money on stealing Saddam's oil that's what.

Now we are in debt to the rest of the world and that debt is running into the trillions of dollars. Can you believe that? How can a country be so much in goddam det? Trillions of dollars!

Not just a few millions. Not even a billion.

Freakin trillions of dollars.

If I went into debt for a lousy thousand buck my goddam bank would haul my over the coals and take my goddam house away from me. If I went into debt for a hundred thousand bucks, I'd probably be locked up!

But the goverment can sanction an open wallet spending spree to go pillage someone elses country on some damn lie about weapons of mass destruction that only existed in the minds of the propergander mongers when they really wanted to steal Iraq's oil! And get the country into more goddam debt than it'll ever get out of. What must the interest payments on a debt that size be? Millions of dollars a day probably. But I bet if you're broke and you want to go to your local social security office, they'll tell you to get lost cause their ain't any money to give you.

Why? Because we spent it all and some goddamit!

So am I a freakin grumpy old man?

This is not a blog for selling stuff or anything like that, but simply a personal blog where I can air my views, opinions and ideas on the subjects and topics that interest me.

In the United States, we are supposed to be free, but I believe that is no longer entirely true. Freedom of speech has been covertly curtailed by successive governments to a point where the liberal, politically correct way of speaking, writing and being has become the norm and not a fringe movement that it once was.

This has limited the way we speak, write and even think.

Is it a bad thing? Well, in my opinion, yes it is.

Political correctness stiffles creativity, restricts hope and undermines the very substance that makes this country great. If it continues, we'll end up with a society that cannot think for itself and the communists will have won without ever dropping a bomb or raising a gun.

Why do I say that?

Political correctness is at the heart of the communist belief that everyone is equal and that no one should rise up above the masses. By stifling freedom of speech in a way that doesn't seem like repressing a person's ability to say what he or she wants or feels, which is exactly what political correctness does, that once highly treasured freedom is covertly withdrawn.

Don't believe me? Look around you and open your eyes.

The general population is rooted to either the TV set or to computer games. The TV is the advertiser's holy grail in which they can sell you anything they want and you'll buy it because the TV says so. Politicians can sway your opinion with a well crafted campain and get you to vote for them. Movie stars make millions of dollars while making you believe they are just like you or me. TV personalities and celebrities all have you believing whatever they tell you even when its is not the truth.

This is just a taste of what is to come in my personal and maybe a little opinionated blog. Come along for the ride if you wanna hear the truth. Or get off if you prefer to keep your head buried in the sand.
